About Nepal

Nepal is a geographically and culturally diverse country of about 30 million people. It is a landlocked country located in South Asia with China in the north and India in the south, east and west. Nepal offers 8 of the fourteen tallest mountains over 8000 meters, 10world heritage sites, world famous adventure tourism destinations including for trekking and mountaineering. Nepal falls in the temperate zone north of the Tropic of Cancer. The entire distance from east to west is about 800 km while from north to south is only 150 to 250 km. Nepal has vast water systems which drain south into India. The country can be divided into three main geographical regions: Himalayan region, mid-hill region and the Terai region. The highest point in the country is the top of the Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m), the tallest mountain on earth, while the lowest point is in the Terai plains at Kechana Kalan in Jhapa (60 m).


About the Embassy

Nepal and the United States of America (USA) established diplomatic relations on April 25, 1947. The US is the second country with which Nepal established diplomatic relations. Nepal opened up its Embassy in Washington D.C. on February 03, 1958.
